Vitlycke Museum is the visitor center for the Tanum rock carvings World Heritage Site. The museum has exhibitions and a Bronze Age farm. There is also a shop, café and toilets here. Tickets to the museum and the Bronze Age farm can be purchased in the shop.

The Bronze Age farm

The Bronze Age Farm is an outdoor exhibition with reconstructed 3000-year-old longhouses, built on a 1:1 scale. You can take part in various activities here during the summer.

Entrance to The Bronze Age farm is included in the museum ticket. You can reach it through the main entrance of the museum.

Sacrificial bog

From the Bronze Age farm, a 500-meter-long path leads past an Iron Age burial ground and a reconstructed sacrificial bog. The path takes you back to the museum.

The Vitlycke rock carvings

300 meters from the museum is the Viltlycke panel, the most famous and popular rock carving in the World Heritage Site. The more than 20-meter-long panel contains more than 500 images, including the famous Bridal Couple.

Vitlyckestigen

From the Viltlycke panel, a 500-meter-long path leads past four smaller sites with rock carvings. One of these has the oldest carving of a ship in the area.

Burial mounds

On the top of the mountain above the Viltlycke panel are two large burial mounds from the Early Bronze Age. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the World Heritage Site from here.

World Heritage Rock Carvings in Tanum

If you want to explore more of the World Heritage site, you should visit the additional areas with rock carvings. To reach these sites, you can simply drive from the museum.

The rock carving area of Aspeberget

Experience 1000 individual images along a 1-kilometer trail with seven different rock faces. The first rock face is accessible.

The rock carvings at Litsleby

Here you can find the largest rock carving of a human in northern Europe – the 2.3-meter-tall Spear God. A 100-meter-long path leads to an exciting rock depicting horse riders.

The rock carvings at Fossum

There are two large and two smaller rock carvings to visit in the area. Here you can find famous carvings such as the Fossum woman and the Sunhorse. The distance between the Fossum panel and Balken is 200 meters.

Skräddö - a gateway to the Tanum World Heritage

At the rest area by the E6 highway is an exhibition about the World Heritage Site and a viewpoint overlooking the area. Leading from the rest area, a one-kilometer path takes you to a small rock carving and other points of interest.
