Are any carvings covered?
Some of the carving in the world heritage area are temporarily covered during the winter to protect them from weathering. Here you will find information whether any sites are covered and therefore not available to see.
Covered carvings
Winter is a risky time for the preservation of the granite rock surface and the images carved into it. The water inside cracks freezes and thaws repeatedly during the cold season, thereby breaking and damaging the granite. By covering the rock carvings, the temperature keeps more stable and reduces the number of times this process occurs. Bags filled with sand have also been placed on some panels in order to divert water. The covering also prevents lichens, algae and other vegetation from growing on the rock; plants that otherwise can contribute to the weathering of the rock.

The Vitlycke panel will be covered from December 3 to April 5
Currently, two of the seven rock carvning sites at Aspeberget is partially covered for the winter

- Depending on the weather, the rock art panels might be covered with ice and snow during the winter.
Opening hours for the rock carvings
- The rock carving sites are open 24/7, every day of the year. And are free of charge. Please note that overnight parking is not allowed at any of the visitor destinations, and the applicable rules are signposted at the parking areas.
